History of Crabtoberfest ...Facts about the Sister County Affiliation between Dorchester County, Maryland and Düren County, Germany

History: In 2010, the sister county affiliation between Dorchester and Düren Counties celebrates its 7th year.

Crabtoberfest applauds the remarkable relationship between the two counties, created to promote peace and understanding through respect, trust, frienship and cooperation.

Business Expansion Program:

In 2010 Dorchester County hosted a Business Roundtable to showcase 8 Dorchester-domiciled concerns interested in expanding their businesses through joint ventures, licensing agreements or distributorships in such sectors as corrugated boxing, pollution control, and organic seafood cultivation.  Plans are underway for a similar Roundtable in Düren County for Fall 2010.

Student Exchange program:

In an effort to share each county's most precious resource - its children - both counties have sponsored student exchange programs since 2005. Children from both counties enjoy a true cultural exchange while they are away. They reside with host families, attend host students' schools and tour the area. Both groups of students truly develop an appreciation for the similarities and differences that exist between the two countries.

Cultural Exchange program:

In 2008 the two counties began an exchange of professional artists. Highly original work by Düren artists has been on display in Cambridge since 2008, and Dorchester artists have traveled to Düren.

Crabtoberfest is held to honor our rich past and embrace positive growth and development for the future.
